Billy Joe has served seven years as executive director of the Mississippi Game and Fish Commission. He is currently on the Dean's Advisory Committee of Wildlife and Forestry at Mississippi State University and on the Foundation Boards of Mississippi College and Hinds Community College . He has served as president of the 14-state and 3-Canadian province Mississippi Flyway Council as well as president of the Southeast Association of Game and Fish Directors.

Billy Joe has authored seven wildlife cookbooks and is in high demand as a wildlife event speaker; he is regularly featured on associated radio and television events. Billy Joe also serves as a consultant to several wholesale and retail hunting supply companies.
